CRU MCAP™ Utilisation Studies

Whether you are a Primary Care Trust attempting to commission services better, an Acute Care Provider Trust that is trying to evaluate the true Acute Care bed needs, or a Community Care Provider or Trust that wants to improve either your operational, quality or financial performance, a CRU MCAP™ Study may be the right first step. Oakgroup offers consultative utilisation studies using the CRU MCAP™ system. The format of the studies falls into one of several options which form the core of the scope of the study. The outcomes are used by both Provider Trusts and PCTs to assist in service redesign initiatives and also as a proof of concept to evaluate the business case for the potential implementation of the system.

Types of study

Studies fall into two broad categories: Snap-Shot; and Longitudinal. The Snap-Shot studies involve a single patient per bed review and the study proceeds through all the scoped wards or services until all the selected services or beds have been reviewed once. The Longitudinal study involves a concurrent review of wards or services on a daily basis (typically 7 days to include the weekends) and provides a more in-depth and statistically significant view of the utilisation of the beds or services, showing how the needs for services or beds changes through the week and to see how consistent or variable the needs are on a daily basis throughout the study.
