CRU MCAP™ Utilisation Studies

Typically, the Longitudinal study is the preferred study for Primary Care Trusts to help bolster and rationalize the redesign of community services to cope with a higher level of transition from the Acute care sector and to understand the typical needs of the region based on a typical week’s worth of data.

The Snap-Shot study is regularly the preferred study for the Provider Trusts as this both captures the quantity of patients receiving services at a level below Acute (or the specific delivery) level along with the reason for their continued presence. It also extends to evaluating the bed usage made by patients by service as well as looking at the Consultant patient loads and sub-specialty against patients’ needs.

The CRU MCAP™ utilization studies can be staffed by Oakgroup nurses, Trust nurses or a combination of the two. It is vital that the Trust obtains the maximum benefit from the study and this decision will generally involve timing, availability and to some lesser extent, the budget.
