CRU MCAP™ System Training
Training
To assure proper application of the CRU MCAP System, the programme provides reviewers, physicians
and consultants training in both the logic underlying the MCAP Criteria and in the process of application. To best accommodate our clients’ needs with the least amount of workflow intrusion, we offer a variety of training modules, including on-site and web-based options.
Both clinical and technical support is available by phone during normal business hours. In addition, nurses are available to consult on difficult cases and train new staff members.
Initial Training
The initial training requirements of the facility are evaluated by Oakgroup. Generally, for new clients, an initial on-site two day training programme is required. This training prepares reviewers to interpret and apply the criteria correctly.
Follow-up Training
Follow-up training is performed after reviewers have begun using the CRU MCAP System. Follow-up training and observation of staff applying the criteria ensures proper application of the CRU MCAP System.
The standard training programme is based on up to 10 pupils in a class. Typically, this will cover the requirements for an acute care 600 bed facility. A first follow up review will occur approximately one month after the initial training and is comprised of a data review to see how the reviewers are performing against each other as a bench mark and to review the outcomes generally to observe some initial programmatical focus. This is followed by reliability testing after 3 months. Additional on-site or Webinar training may be recommended after the first follow-up and reliability testing review. This process ensures the maximum benefit from using the CRU System.
Reliability Testing
Following each annual training session (including the initial training), we measure assimilation of the training material through on-line reliability testing. We then utilize the test results to customize subsequent refresher training sessions. The Oakgroup staff scores the reliability test and sends a report to client managers. Certification requires a score of 80% or greater, and reviewers who score less than 80% receive additional training before retesting.
Update Training
Subsequent to the annual criteria release for existing clients, The Oakgroup provides an orientation course for previously trained users. The goal of this training is to reinforce proper and consistent application of the CRU MCAP System, as well as to update users on any changes made in the MCAP Criteria.
